Water management

Water management in Podravka is carried out through an integrated approach to the problem of water, including both drinking water and technological wastewater.

The basic idea is the rational use of water as an important resource. With regard to drinking water, this involves the constant control of the quality of water which is pumped from the company’s own wells for the needs of the location of Starčevićeva ulica, and the constant control of water consumption and usage. For this reason, water recirculation is put into practice wherever possible.

The water used for energy is prepared on the company's industrial facilities. It is subject to neutralisation and its release is strictly controlled.

Special attention is paid to wastewater. In support of these efforts, in June 2002 completely modernised equipment for wastewater processing in the industrial zone of Danica was installed, along with a new water collector for the drainage of wastewater from Podravka's factories to the water filter. The technical-technological solution and the design were both created solely within Podravka. The results of the purification of wastewater of Podravka's factories in the industrial zone of Danica are on average 8 to 9 times better than what is required by legal regulations concerning the release of water into the public drainage system.

Several important goals were achieved with this investment:

• protection of subterranean waters and water collection sites,
• safe wastewater drainage,
• energy conservation,
• high level of wastewater purification.
