Environmental protection

Podravka has had a long tradition in environmental protection. At the beginning of the 1970s, Podravka had already built its first wastewater purifier. The development of ecology within the Technology Development and Control Department has been operating in the present way since March 1998. Podravka’s operations are based on legislative regulations and secondary legislation, as well as on the Action Plan on Environmental Protection, which has been harmonised with EBRD after an ecological audit carried out by Eco-Ina.

This kind of environmental protection implies integral solutions for all of the company’s entities, which are as follows:

• Issues concerning wastewater
• Waste management in the widest sense
• Disposal of dangerous materials
• Emissions into the air
• Maintaining a register of polluters
• Disposal of raw materials, finished products and packaging which are for some reason not satisfactory
• Cooperation in the selection of “clean technologies” and maintenance of ecological standards in the design and reconstruction of industrial facilities
• Drainage, and repair of sewage systems
• Laboratory control – an authorised laboratory

The largest problems which could cause the most serious consequences are resolved as a priority, and later other problems as well. The resolution of the remaining known problems and of those that may be predicted show Podravka’s concerted aim to achieve European environmental protection standards.
