Quality of products and business processes and continual improvement of business practices are Podravka’s permanent strategic goal. The demands and satisfaction of our customers and consumers, as well as all other stakeholders (owners, employees, suppliers, financial institutions, the community), must be balanced and systematically communicated via all of our business processes. In order to achieve a systematic approach to management and standardisation and improve business processes, the corporate function of Business Quality has been established.
The mission of this corporate function is development, implementation and maintenance of an integrated management system based on standards: these include the ISO 9001:2000 (Quality Management System), ISO 14001 (Environmental Management System), ISO 18001 (OHSAS – Occupational Health & Safety Audit System), and HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points) principles, as well as other standards and regulations concerning the food industry and its markets (BRC - the British Retail Consortium). In addition, projects of Business Excellence are being coordinated, and employee training in these areas is carried out at all levels.
Up to now, basic business processes relating to development, production, sales and distribution have been systematically organised: food seasoning products, semi-cooked dishes and soups, baby food, pudding powder and baking ingredients, snack products, packed tea, and processed fruits and vegetables. This system has been certified according to ISO 9001:2000 requirements, with six certificates currently in our possession (three in Croatia, two in Poland, and one in Hungary). Systematic organisation is continuing, with certification of processes in the meat division now being prepared, to be followed by beverages and other Podravka food divisions.
It should be mentioned that a Food Safety system based on HACCP principles has also been developed and implemented in the aforementioned areas, as well as in Ital-Ice. A HACCP system had been developed and implemented in the Danica d.o.o. meat complex even earlier. The HACCP system has also been implemented in the Podravka facilities located in Poland and Hungary. In Croatia, the HACCP system is subject to regular control by the Veterinary Inspection Office. Podravka’s HACCP educational centre (the only one of its kind in Croatia) is registered as part of its corporate Quality Management system, and holds a license from the British RIPH (Royal Institute for Public Health), a world-renowned institution in this field.
In the coming year, our efforts will be directed mainly at implementing Environmental Management system.
Podravka is a member of EFQM-a (the European Foundation for Quality Management) and is dedicated to Business Excellence. A project for the first level of Business Excellence, intended to improve existing business processes, is being planned.
Representatives of Podravka’s corporate Quality Management system are active in all Croatian organisations concerned with systematic approaches to quality (HDK - the Croatian Society for Quality, HDMK – the Croatian Society of Quality Managers, HZPK – the Croatian Foundation for Business Quality), as well as the leading European organisations (EOQ - the European Organization for Quality - i EFQM - the European Foundation for Quality Management). Podravka’s approach to quality is also defined in its Quality Policy, one of the essential documents of its Management system.
Podravka’s activities and results in the area of Quality Management demonstrate its ability to satisfy the demands of EU markets by introducing more effective business practices.
